Nissan 350Z Hood Latch

The Nissan 350Z Hood Latch keeps the hood down during travel and protects the engine-bay components. The Hood Latch locks the panel in place to prevent theft of components from inside the engine compartment of the vehicle. It prevents sudden opening of the hood that can block the road view or break the windshield and also serves as an anti-theft device. The Hood Latch system features an inside release handle, cable, spring-loaded catch, and front-edge latch assembly, all of which serve to hold down the hood until the driver pulls the handle. The housing of this steel construction is reinforced to provide strength against vibrations and breakage. It also matches factory specifications of every 350Z. A properly sealed Hood Latch aids in keeping dirt and moisture from entering your compartment. Some of the locking versions are equipped with plate tumbler sidebars and stainless shutters for extra security, and their function is the same on Nissan 350Z. When your Nissan 350Z Hood Latch operates consistently, it retains the safety and component security that Nissan 350Zs are expected to perform at. Further, Nissan owners can be confident that their hood will not pop open until they release it.

Nissan 350Z Hood Latch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front hood cable and hood latch, and ensure proper installation on Nissan 350Z?
    A:
Scribe a line around the latch to aid alignment during installation, then detach the latch retaining bolts to the radiator support and remove the latch. Disconnect the Hood release cable by disengaging it from the latch assembly, and installation follows the reverse of the removal procedure. Adjust the latch so the hood engages securely when closed and the hood bumpers are slightly compressed. Remove the radiator grille by taking out the fasteners securing it, and disconnect the hood release cable from the latch. Remove the inner fender splash shield by taking out the mounting fasteners. Attach a piece of stiff wire to the end of the cable, then follow the cable back to the firewall and detach all the cable retaining clips. In the passenger compartment, remove the driver's side knee bolster and detach the cable from the hood release lever. Pull the cable and grommet rearward into the passenger compartment until the wire is visible. Ensure that the new cable has a grommet attached, then remove the old cable from the wire and replace it with the new cable. From the fender well, pull the wire back through the firewall, and installation follows the reverse of removal. Push on the grommet with your fingers from the passenger compartment to seat it correctly in the firewall.
