Nissan 350Z Water Pump

The Water Pump of the Nissan 350Z helps move the car's coolant through the engine and then the radiator. In the cooling system of the 350Z, the Water Pump takes the water-antifreeze mix from the lower radiator hose, pushes it through the block and cylinder head passages called the water jacket, and pumps the heated fluid back to the radiator where excess heat is released to ambient air. Many pumps these days have a rotating shaft mounted on bearings. That is to say, many pumps these days are aluminum castings. The unit factory installed in every Nissan 350Z coupe has this design. A belt-driven pulley turns the shaft, while on the opposite end an impeller moves the coolant. A seal around the shaft keeps the fluid away from the bearings so that it does not leak. The Water Pump plays a crucial role in maintaining stable temperatures. An early sign of a failing Water Pump is a drip of coolant. Other warning signs include a grinding or whining noise caused by worn bearings. Should the impeller break, it will cause the engine to overheat. A broken Water Pump also prevents the high-revving Nissan engine from heat damage. Replacing a faulty Water Pump restores dependable temperature control for any Nissan 350Z engine.
