Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the engine cover. On 2011 and later four-cylinder models, remove the right front fenderwell liner. Remove the drivebelt. Four-cylinder engine Disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. Remove the mounting bolts and separate the alternator from the engine. Installation is the reverse of removal. Perform the necessary re-learn procedures. V6 engine Note: On 2011 and later model, removing the right front wheel and fenderwell liner may improve access. If you choose to do so, remove the wheel after draining the engine coolant. Have the air conditioning system evacuated by a shop with the proper equipment. Remove the engine lower splash shield. Drain some of the engine coolant (enough to bring the level below the upper radiator hose). Remove the air filter housing and ducts. Connect a memory-saver device, then remove the battery. Remove the PCM. Disconnect the automatic transmission control module, if so equipped. Remove the PCM mounting bracket. Remove the current sensor from the battery tray, then remove the battery tray. Remove the engine cooling fan. Release the power steering line clip and position the line out of the way. Remove the air conditioning compressor. Remove the air conditioning idler pulley. Disconnect the wiring from the oil pressure switch and the alternator. Remove the alternator mounting fasteners, then slide the alternator out and remove it. Installation is the reverse of removal. Add coolant, then perform the necessary re-learn procedures. Check drivebelt tension. Have the air conditioning system recharged by the shop that discharged it.
