Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Drain the cooling system and save the coolant if it is in good condition. Loosen the right-front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and remove the right front wheel and inner fender splash shield. For a four-cylinder engine, remove the drivebelt and water pump pulley, as well as the front air inlet duct, engine ground cable, alternator and its bracket. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the pump housing. If necessary, remove the complete water pump housing and pump assembly from the block and water pipe. Clean the mating surfaces if the housing was removed, then install the pump/housing assembly to the block and connect the water pipe. Place a new gasket on the water pump and install the pump to the housing, then reinstall the alternator and any other components that were removed. Refill the cooling system, reconnect the battery, and perform the necessary re-learn procedures. For a V6 engine, set the engine to TDC on the compression stroke and remove the drivebelt, belt idler pulley, and air conditioning idler pulley. Remove the coolant drain plug, support the engine, and remove the front engine mount and its bracket. Disconnect the wiring from the right IVT control valve and remove the right IVT control valve cover. Remove the water pump cover, chain tensioner cover, and water pump cover from the engine front cover. Pull the timing chain tensioner lever down and insert a stopper pin to retain it in the released position. Rotate the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise to loosen the timing chain on the water pump sprocket. Install two bolts into the water pump bolt holes and tighten them until they bottom against the timing chain cover. Remove the three water pump mounting bolts and remove the water pump. Clean the sealant from the mating surface and replace the O-rings. Install the O-rings and tighten the pump bolts. Installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system, reconnect the battery, and perform the necessary re-learn procedures.
