The ECT sensor is mounted in the water outlet at the left (driver's) side of the engine. Remove the engine cover and the air intake duct. Drain some engine coolant to minimize coolant spillage. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor. Unscrew the sensor from the engine and discard the sealing washer, a new one should be used. Installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system.

The Nissan Altima Coolant Temperature Sensor continually transmits data about the coolant's heat to the engine control module in order to enhance the vehicle's efficiency and safety. In every Nissan Altima model, the Coolant Temperature Sensor is installed in a coolant passage whose thermistor element directly detects the flow. As temperatures go up, the Coolant Temperature Sensor, a negative temperature coefficient device, reduces electrical resistance.
