The air filter box houses the Sensor MAF /IAT. On this vehicle, the Mass Air Flow (MAF)/Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is situated at the air filter housing and fastened with two screws. To uninstall it start by detaching the electrical connector from the MAF/IAT sensor. Then, remove these screws and in conclusion pull out all of the sensors from that air filter housing. To reinstall this sensor perform these steps but in reverse.

The Mass Air Flow Sensor in a Nissan Altima measures the amount of air entering the engine, allowing the powertrain control module to adjust fuel injection for efficient combustion. The electronic Mass Air Flow Sensor finds its place in the Altima's intake tract. Moreover, it transfers an airflow signal to the Nissan computer along with other sensor data so that the mixture remains correct. Two principal styles of the Mass Air Flow Sensor can be found on Altima models, the hot wire sensor and the vane meter. When the hot wire Mass Air Flow Sensor works, it places a heated wire in the airstream. This change of position is applied to determine the mass flow of air into the engine. Both serve the same purpose for Nissan Altima engines. The hot wire design has no moving parts. The vane meter has a mechanical door that can stick or wear out.
