On Armada models equipped with a rear auto-leveling suspension, turn the ignition key to the OFF position before raising the vehicle. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels to keep the vehicle from rolling off the jackstands. Remove the wheel. Loosen the tie-rod end jam nut (Hold the tie-rod with a wrench while loosening the jam nut). Mark the relationship of the tie-rod end to the threaded portion of the tie-rod. This will help restore the toe-in setting during reassembly (Mark the position of the tie-rod end in relation to the threads on the inner tie-rod). Loosen (but don't remove) the nut on the tie-rod end ballstud and disconnect the tie-rod end from the
Steering Knuckle with a balljoint removal tool or puller (Back-off the ballstud nut a few turns, then separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle with a balljoint tool or puller (leaving the nut on the ballstud will prevent the tie-rod end from separating violently)). Remove the nut and detach the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle. If you're replacing the lie-rod end, unscrew it from the lie-rod, then thread the new one onto the tie-red to the marked position. Connect the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle. Install the nut on the ballstud and tighten it. Tighten the jam nut securely. Install the wheel. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts. Have the front end alignment checked and, if necessary, adjusted.
