Nissan Juke Canister Purge Valve

Fuel vapors that would typically escape to the atmosphere through the Juke's fuel system are kept in the system by the Nissan Juke Canister Purge Valve and instead routed to the engine to be burned cleanly. The Canister Purge Valve is positioned between the charcoal canister and the intake manifold. When it detects engine vacuum, it allows air to flow through the activated charcoal. This results in air-fuel mixing of the stored hydrocarbons along with the air fuel entering the intake manifold. In turn, it lowers the emissions due to hydrocarbons that were formerly stored in the engine. Earlier Juke models utilized a vacuum actuated Canister Purge Valve that opened whenever manifold vacuum was sufficient. Later versions of the Juke utilized an OBD-II version like that applied in many modern Nissan cars. This system has an electronically switched Canister Purge Valve. The engine computer controls this valve. It can close the vent solenoid, open the valve on command, and perform leak tests using a pressure sensor. It is a small yet vital link in that chain, along with the Canister Purge Valve having the same purpose as before. So while the hardware differed, the objective remained the same. Should the valve become jammed, the computer will register a leak and set off the check engine light, frequently leading present Juke owners to just tighten the fuel cap, ensuring their Nissan remains clean.

Nissan Juke Canister Purge Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to inspect and replace the canister purge valve, catalytic converter, and vapor canister in the emission control systems on Nissan Juke?
    A:
The components of the crankcase emission control system require regular checks to ensure the hoses are clear and undamaged, with attention to their fitted positions during removal. For evaporative emission control, if a fault is suspected, hoses should be disconnected from the charcoal canister and purge control valve to check for blockages. Renewal of the charcoal canister, located under the car near the fuel tank, involves jacking up the rear, disconnecting hoses, removing the canister, and refitting in reverse order. The purge control solenoid valve, found in the rear right-hand side of the engine compartment for 1.2 litre models or on the inlet manifold for 1.6 litre models, requires disconnection of the wiring and hoses before removal and reinstallation. Exhaust emission control involves checking the catalytic converter's performance with an exhaust gas analyser; if CO levels are high, a Nissan dealer should inspect the fuel injection and ignition systems. Renewal of the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors, which are sensitive and should not be dropped or cleaned, involves jacking up the vehicle, disconnecting wiring, unscrewing the sensor, and applying high-temperature grease before reinstallation, ensuring proper routing of the wiring to avoid contact with hot components.
