To remove gear lever housing, start by removing the centre console. Next, you need to disconnect the two cable ends from the shift selector levers. Press the tabs located at the top and pull out outer cables from this gear lever housing. Undo four mounting bolts and pull out housing assembly. Remove shift cables from gear lever housing assembly. In order to reach, it is advised that you first of all remove battery and battery tray as well as if necessary air cleaner assembly. Cable ends are disconnected from ball joints on transmission selector levers. Pull off outer cables, after depressing upper tabs, from transmission mounting bracket. Put on handbrake, lift up front of vehicle and take off heat shield from under center tunnel. After unclipping the outer cables from a support bracket, release rubber grommet and withdraw cables from below vehicle. All gear linkage components should be examined for wear or damage. Take particular care not to drop anything into gear selection mechanism whilst working in area around floor panel aperture or centre section of vehicle floor pan. To reassemble apply grease to the bushes and pivot ball of a gear lever. Refit by reversing removal procedure. Check for smooth engagement by moving "gear lever" through all "gear positions" and adjusting it. Remove centre console and release locking clip from selector cable end fitting. Eliminate slack in inner cable by pulling up free play in "gear lever." Lock inner cable. Check operation of "gear" lever then reassemble centre console.
