For models from 1999 and earlier, ensure the battery is in good condition and fully charged if wipers operate slowly; if so, remove the wiper motor and manually operate the wiper arms to check for binding in the linkage and pivots, lubricating or repairing as necessary before reinstalling the motor. If wipers fail to activate, check the
Fuse and use a jumper wire to test the motor's ground connection; if it works, repair the ground. If not, check for voltage at the motor when the switch is in the HI position, and if voltage is present, test the motor off the vehicle with jumper wires. For inoperative interval function, check wiring continuity between the switch and wiper control module, and for wipers that fail to park, ensure a good ground connection at the motor. If wipers won't shut off unless the ignition is off, disconnect the switch; if they stop, replace the switch, otherwise replace the motor due to a defective limit switch. For wipers that won't retract below the hood line, check for mechanical obstructions and wiring continuity before replacing the motor if necessary. To replace the wiper motor, remove the wiper arms, cowl cover, and electrical connector, detach the wiper motor/linkage assembly, and remove the retaining bolts before installing the new motor in reverse order.
