Nissan Murano Vapor Canister

The Nissan Murano Vapor Canister is designed to capture and store fuel vapors while they're not flowing to the engine. The Vapor Canister is usually located next to the fuel tank or in the engine compartment. The canister is filled with activated charcoal, which adsorbs vapor until conditions are right for it to be released. Whenever the engine operates and the purge valve opens, the Vapor Canister draws fresh air through the canister, and the trapped mixture moves into the intake manifold. The vapors are then burned during normal combustion. The Vapor Canister is also connected to a canister vent solenoid and a fuel tank pressure sensor. This functionality allows the engine control module to seal the system and confirm the vacuum holding capability of the entire fuel vapor system. Failure of the system to reach the expected vacuum level will trigger a warning light. Certain models include a replaceable filter that ensures particles don't get to the machine's inner workings.
