Evaporative emissions control system is responsible for drawing fuel vapor from the gas tank and from the fuel system placing it in the charcoal canister and later on burning it in normal functioning of the engine. The problem in this system produces a common, unmistakable scent of fuel in the engine compartment. If fuel smell is present, the area should be ventilated and the charcoal canister found at the front of the engine should be check for any signs of leaks or cracks, the same goes for the canister and all hoses.
