Nissan Pathfinder Exhaust Manifold
The Exhaust Manifold in your Nissan Pathfinder collects hot exhaust gas from the engine's cylinder head and passes it through a single outlet to the rest of the exhaust system. The Exhaust Manifold is bolted to the cylinder head and connected to the exhaust pipe. Gaskets in this component seal the gases as they move to the catalytic converter, muffler, and tailpipe. Many assemblies are made from cast iron. Some manufacturers use steel or stainless steel tubing that is welded to a flange. Many assemblies have a heat shield to protect surrounding components from extreme heat. Some installations place an oxygen sensor port on the Exhaust Manifold, and in some vehicles, the catalytic converter is part of the manifold to simplify emissions control. Continuous thermal cycling can cause cracks in the component. - Q: How to remove and replace an exhaust manifold on 3.5L V6 Nissan Pathfinder?A:Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Block the rear wheels and set the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the lower splash shield from below the engine if equipped. Remove the front exhaust pipe from the vehicle. Unbolt the lower heat shields and remove the catalytic converters from the exhaust manifolds. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors. Remove the heat shield from the manifold(s). Note: When removing the right exhaust manifold it will be necessary to remove the coolant tube from the right side of the engine. Also remove the power steering pump reservoir from the inner fenderwell and position it aside without disconnecting the fluid lines to allow access to the manifold. Remove the manifold-to-head nuts/bolts and detach the manifold and gaskets. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material and carbon deposits from the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces. Position the new exhaust manifold gaskets over the studs on the cylinder head. Install the manifold and thread the mounting nuts/bolts into place. Working from the center out, tighten the nuts/bolts to the specific torque in three or four equal steps. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
