Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by depressing the tab. Remove the screws and pull the switch from the ignition lock cylinder housing. Before installing the new switch, ensure the hub of the switch is aligned with the blade on the ignition lock cylinder. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal, followed by reconnecting the battery and performing the necessary re-learn procedures. Remove the ignition switch, and for models equipped with an automatic transaxle, detach the shift interlock cable from the ignition lock cylinder housing. Remove the shear-head bolts and detach the ignition lock cylinder from the steering column by drilling through the center of the shear-head bolts and using a screw extractor. Installation is the reverse of removal, tightening the new shear-head bolts until the heads break off, then reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures.
