This procedure only applies to 2.5L engines, as the oil pump in 2.0L engines is an integral part of the
Oil Pan and cannot be removed or replaced separately; if there is an issue with the oil pump, the upper oil pan must be replaced. The oil pump is located inside the timing chain cover and is driven by the crankshaft. Begin by removing the timing chain cover, then take out the retaining fasteners for the oil pump cover and disassemble the inner and outer rotors, being cautious with these components due to their critical tolerances for oil pressure. Clean all components, including the timing chain cover and engine block gasket surfaces, with solvent and inspect for excessive wear or damage. Disassemble the relief valve and check the oil pressure regulator valve and spring; if damaged, replace them as a set. If no damage is found, reassemble the relief valve parts with clean engine oil. Check the oil pump component clearance with a feeler gauge and replace both the timing chain cover and oil pump components if any measurements are out of specification. Assemble the oil pump components, ensuring the punch marks on each rotor face away from the timing chain cover, then pour clean engine oil into the pump cavity and around the rotors before installing the cover and tightening the fasteners. Install the timing chain cover with RTV sealant on the cover-to-block surface, aligning the flats on the inner oil pump rotor with the crankshaft. Proceed to install the
Cylinder Head and other components, followed by the oil pan, a new oil filter, and adding engine oil to the crankcase. Finally, start the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks, and recheck the engine oil level.
