How to remove and install the Canister Purge Valve and Vapor Canister on the Nissan Titan?

Remove the engine cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the purge control solenoid valve. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the hoses from the purge control solenoid valve. Remove the purge control valve mounting fasteners and remove the purge valve from its mounting bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Raise the vehicle and support It securely on jackstands. The EVAP canister is located underneath the vehicle, to the rear of the fuel tank. Disconnect the EVAP hoses from the EVAP canister. Disconnect the electrical connector from the canister. Remove the fastener that secures the EVAP canister and remove the canister. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Nissan Titan Canister Purge Valve

The Nissan Titan Canister Purge Valve prevents the release of harmful fuel vapors by routing them into the engine where they are burnt rather than being expelled. The Canister Purge Valve is located between the charcoal canister and the intake manifold. When commanded by the engine control module, this valve opens. The manifold vacuum then draws stored vapors through the activated charcoal. This is done to mix the vapors with incoming air fuel. The earlier Titan Canister Purge Valves were basically just on-off devices, whereas OBD-II versions incorporated onboard diagnostic ability so the Canister Purge Valve now works with an associated canister vent solenoid and tank pressure sensor to allow the computer to test for leaks. When the vent solenoid closes, the Canister Purge Valve opens for a brief period, allowing vacuum to build in the tank. If it does not, the module logs a fault and lights the dash warning. A stuck or leaking Canister Purge Valve on any Nissan Titan generation can cause higher emissions, waste gas, and illuminate a check engine warning light.
