How to remove and install the Canister Purge Valve and Vapor Canister on the Nissan Titan?

Remove the engine cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the purge control solenoid valve. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the hoses from the purge control solenoid valve. Remove the purge control valve mounting fasteners and remove the purge valve from its mounting bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Raise the vehicle and support It securely on jackstands. The EVAP canister is located underneath the vehicle, to the rear of the fuel tank. Disconnect the EVAP hoses from the EVAP canister. Disconnect the electrical connector from the canister. Remove the fastener that secures the EVAP canister and remove the canister. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Nissan Titan Vapor Canister

The Vapor Canister of the Nissan Titan is designated to capture fuel vapors from the fuel tank of the truck. Located in the engine compartment or next to the tank, the Vapor Canister is filled with activated charcoal whose countless pores adsorb evaporated fuel. Inside the complete Nissan fuel system, the Titan part lets loose its stored vapors when the engine vacuum opens the purge valve. Fresh air then travels through the Vapor Canister, sweeping the vapors into the intake manifold and into the combustion chambers. The Nissan Titan has a closed loop system which burns fuel that would otherwise be wasted, reducing smog-forming emissions. On OBD-II models, a sealed test occurs. The engine control module commands a vent solenoid to close, opens the path to purge, then sees what a tank pressure sensor says.
