The engine must be removed for this procedure, followed by the removal of the timing chain covers and
Oil Pans. Next, slide the oil pump drive spacer from the crankshaft. If disassembly of the pump is necessary, use a large Phillips screwdriver to loosen the oil pump cover screws without removing them. Remove the oil pump mounting bolts and detach the pump from the engine. After that, take out the screws and pump cover, lift out the rotors, and clean all components with solvent while inspecting for wear and damage. Remove the oil pressure regulator cap, washer, spring(s), and valve, checking the sliding surface of the oil pressure regulator valve and the valve spring; if either is damaged, they must be replaced as a set. Measure the clearance of the oil pump components using feeler gauges and calipers, comparing the measurements to the specified clearances; if any are excessive, replace the entire oil pump assembly. Lubricate the oil pump rotors with clean engine oil and install them in the pump body with the marks facing out, packing the voids in the pump with petroleum jelly to prime it, then install the cover and tighten the screws to the specified torque. Lubricate the pressure regulator valve with clean engine oil, install the valve, spring, and washer, and tighten the oil pressure regulator valve cap to the specified torque. Finally, install the oil pump drive spacer with the front mark facing out and the keyway aligned with the crankshaft Woodruff key, align the flats on the inner rotor with those on the oil pump drive spacer, and tighten the oil pump bolts to the specified torque, completing the installation in reverse order of removal.
