The purpose of the Door Lock in a Nissan Versa is to lock the doors of the car to prevent them from opening and obstructing unauthorized entry. When the door closes, the mechanism known as a Door Lock consists of a latch that utilizes a clasp which catches a jamb mounted striker. The Door Lock includes a key operated lock cylinder or one which is operated by an interior knob. The latch of the unit can be prevented from releasing. This is achieved by blocking the exterior handle through operation of the key or interior knob until such time as the Door Lock is unlocked. An electric actuator is attached to the latch on many Nissan Versa models. This allows the unit to be operated by an electrical switch in the cabin. The switch sends power to a relay or control module. Consequently, the master switch lets the driver lock and unlock every door.
