Engines of 2011 and before only have an Intake Valve Timing (IVT) control solenoid. Both intake and exhaust control solenoids are present in 2012 and later1.6L engines. The IVT solenoid is mounted on timing chain cover in 1.8Lengines and 2011 and prior 1.6L engines. For the engines of 1.6L, it is mounted at the front right corner of the cylinder head. The EVT solenoid is positioned at the right rear corner of the cylinder head. These solenoid valves control left and right oil to the intake/exhaust camshaft actuator, thereby advancing or retarding camshaft timing respectively as commanded by the PCM. They are controlled by a computer called PCM or power train control module that directs them via electrical signals to respond according to changes in engine speed, temperature among other parameters. Jack up and support the vehicle on jack stands.Remove right Engine Mount Assembly.Crossing over above engine mount is possible for some models.Remove solenoid mounting bolt then remove solenoid.Reinstall in reverse order of removal.Replace O-ring (if equipped) with new one.
