Nissan Xterra Radiator fan

The Radiator fan in your Nissan Xterra helps to regulate engine temperature by pulling air through the radiator when not enough air moves through it naturally. Located right behind the grille, this Radiator fan turns on whenever ram air reduces during slow driving or idling. The fan draws fresh air across the tubes and fins filled with coolant so heat escapes quickly. A belt-driven mechanical design that spun constantly with the crankshaft in early Nissan generations provided steady flow but robbed a little engine power. Following that, Nissan Xterra models moved to a later electric Radiator fan. It only spins when a sensor sees a spike in coolant temperatures. This improves fuel efficiency. Plus, you also have much quieter operation. This Radiator fan assembly comes with a multi-blade propeller, a motor or clutch, and a shroud that directs the airflow accurately through the radiator core, irrespective of type. All Nissan drivers enjoy the benefits of the Radiator fan. This handy piece of equipment prevents overheating after sluggish pace in traffic jams. In addition, it helps keep everything at a steady level at constant speeds. Plus, it will enhance engine life especially on steep trails. Throughout the years and changing styles, the mission stayed the same. All Xterra's have reliable cooling confidence.

Nissan Xterra Radiator fan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Reinstall the Radiator Fan and Clutch Assembly on Nissan Xterra?
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and rock the fan back and forth by hand to check for excessive bearing play. With the engine cold (and not running), turn the fan blades by hand. Visually inspect for substantial fluid leakage from the clutch assembly. With the engine completely warmed up, turn off the ignition switch and disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Turn the fan by hand. Loosen the fan/water pump pulley nuts several turns. Remove any drivebelts which would interfere with the removal of the radiator fan drivebelt, then remove the radiator fan drivebelt. Detach the lower half of the fan shroud. Remove the fan/water pump pulley nuts and pull the fan/clutch assembly out from the bottom. Carefully inspect the fan blades for damage and defects. At this point, the fan may be unbolted from the clutch, if necessary. Be sure to re-install the fan blade with the "F" mark facing the front of the engine. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fan and clutch mounting nuts evenly and securely.
