To install the number two (middle) ring, use a piston ring installation tool, and ensure the identification mark is facing upward, typically stamped on the ring. Take care not to over-expand the ring during installation.

If the end gap measurement of the top ring is larger or smaller than specified, ensure you have the correct rings before proceeding. For a too small gap, you may need to file the rings to fit or exchange the set, depending on the ring type and material. For an excess end gap, which is not critical unless it exceeds 0.040-inch, compare measurements to the maximum specified end gap and make adjustments if necessary.
