    Q:
How is the Neutral Safety Switch installed and adjusted to ensure the engine starts only in Park or Neutral and controls the backup lights on Nissan 240sx? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is landed in the transmission case behind of the shift lever, to protect the engine from starting in any other position but Park or Neutral and to regulate the backup lights also. Start by moving the transmission selector lever to the Neutral position, and then extract the screw that is motivating the switch. Next, after loosening the attaching bolt and slide the switch until the 2.0mm diameter aligning pin fits into a hole in the rotor. Then, fasten the attaching bolts equally but to a higher torque. Last, but not least, check that the engine begins only when the car stays in Park or Neutral with brakes engaged and the backup lights come on only if the car is shifted into Reverse.

    Q:
What is the function of the Neutral Safety Switch and How to remove and adjust it on Nissan 240sx? Posted by Customer
    A:
When the transaxle shifts to the Reverse position the inhibitor switch activates both back-up lights functionality and the Neutral functionality needed to supply power to the starter in Neutral and Park positions. Vehicle support on jackstands enables the removal and installation process to begin with transaxle control cable and electrical harness detachment then screw removal from the switch after which the switch can be taken out. The installation process starts by following reverse steps of removal while adjustment requires support and lifting the vehicle to align the adjustment holes of the inhibitor switch with the switch lever through vertical positioning of the lever. Use a torque wrench to adjust the screws to 1.4-1.9 foot pounds while checking electrical measurement to make sure the vehicle engine operates only during Park or Neutral selection.

    Q:
How to remove and install the Back Up Light Switch on Nissan 240sx with Manual transaxle? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and install the component, first raise the vehicle and support it safely. Next, disconnect the electrical connections. Then, remove the switch from the transaxle housing, ensuring to place a drain pan underneath to catch any fluid. For installation, follow the reverse of the removal procedures.

    Q:
How to remove and install the Back Up Light Switch on Nissan 240sx with Manual transmission? Posted by Customer
    A:
To uninstall the switch to install a new one, you will need to lift the car and support it properly first. Then, remove all the wiring connections of the switch that you have connected at the beginning of the process. When undoing the switch from the four transmission housing, ensure you put a drain pan to collect the fluid that may spill. For installation, do the reverse of the above-stated removal process and check the level of the fluid and if the switch has a mounting gasket, make sure to fit it.

    Q:
How to test the back up light switch on the Nissan 300ZX after disconnecting the negative cable at the battery? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative cable at the battery and place it out of the way to prevent accidental contact with the negative terminal. Position the transmission in Reverse and raise the vehicle, ensuring it is securely supported on jackstands. Locate the back up wire on the side of the transmission and disconnect the electrical contact leads from the switch. Use an ohm meter to check for continuity by placing the leads onto the terminals of the switch; continuity should only be present in Reverse while shifting through the gears with assistance. If the switch does not pass the test, unscrew it from the transmission case and replace it with a new one.

    Q:
How to test and adjust the Neutral Safety Switch for Nissan 300ZX? Posted by Customer
    A:
For testing all models except the 1984 turbo, locate the inhibitor switch electrical connector next to the battery, identifiable by its eight attaching wires. Disconnect the connector and ensure the shift selector is in the Park position, then use an ohmmeter on terminals two and five to check for continuity. When the shifter is in Reverse, there should be no continuity between terminals two and five, while continuity should appear between terminals one and three. In Neutral, continuity will be lost between terminals one and three, and continuity will be present between terminals one and four. When the shifter is in Drive, continuity in terminals one and four will be lost. For the 1984 turbo model, locate the inhibitor switch electrical connector by its four attaching wires or trace the wire from the switch on the transmission. After disconnecting the connector, verify the shift selector is in Park and check continuity between terminals one and two. In Reverse, there should be no continuity at those terminals, with continuity shifting to terminals three and four. In Neutral, continuity will be lost between terminals three and four, while terminals one and two will show continuity. In Drive, continuity will be lost in all terminals. For adjustment, place the shifter in Neutral, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the inhibitor switch adjustment hold-down screw, and loosen the two adjustment bolts. Rotate the inhibitor switch until a 0.079 inch diameter wire fits into the hole left by the removed screw, then tighten the adjustment bolts and remove the wire before replacing the hold-down screw. Finally, repeat the ohmmeter tests, and if any fail, replace the inhibitor switch.

    Q:
Is this the same exact part as Neutral safety switch (under the clutch pedal)? Seems a lot of places are selling this position switch for safety switch. I need the transmission switch- on the train to tell the ecu that you are in neutral. Posted by Customer: 1993 Nissan Hardbody Pickup (D21)
    A:
YES THATS THE NEAUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH
