    Q:
How to overhaul CV joints and CV boots effectively on Nissan Altima? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the CV joints must be overhauled, one should consider all the options before it is started, as there are rebuilt drive axles available on exchange basis which proves to be cheaper and time effective. Car owners should first evaluate the cost and get hold of the prices of the exploitation parts before the process of the dismantling of the vehicle. First, to dismantle the inner CV joint one needs to take out the driveaxle and the boot clamps where the retainers tab are present. Withdraw the boot up to the inner CV joint, remove the retaining member and slide off the joint housing. To ensure proper reassembly of the tripod and axleshaft, use a center punch to mark these parts before disconnecting them, After doing this, you will have to remove the snap-ring that is fitted at the end of the axleshaft using snap-ring pliers. Mash the tripod joint from the driveaxle by hammer with brass punch, but be careful not to worsen the bearing surfaces or the splines. Wash all links with solvent to eliminate grease and, as a consequence, examine for wear. When disassembling the halves, install the clamps and boot to the axleshaft with the boot placed over the splines to aid in reassembly; thread the splines with tape to avoid damaging the boot. Position the tripod shape side next to the axleshaft, grease the tripod assembly, joint housing and boot and then screw on the housing and the retaining ring. Make sure the boot seats in the grooves all right, set the length of the joint in a proper way, balance the pressure inside the boot, and fix the boot clamp. Place a new circlip at the inner CV joint stub axle before bolting the driveaxle back in its place. For the outer CV joint, first remove the drive axle and boot clamps, wash out the old grease, check on the bearing surface and then fill the joint with the CV joint grease with the help of a wooden dowel. Place the small clamp and boot around the driveaxle, and spread grease to the inside of the axle boot Place-auto tape on the splined area. Last, place the new circlip about the groove at the end of the driveaxle and place the CV joint assembly at the bottom of driveaxle correctly aligning the splines seating the boot properly in its grooving and adjust the joint to the correct length as well.

    Q:
Why are CV boots crucial for protecting constant velocity (CV) joints on Nissan Altima? Posted by Customer
    A:
The driveaxle boots are very important since it is the one that shields the constant velocity (CV) joints from dust, water and any other material that may cause damage to the boot as it translates the same to the CV joint. One should also look at the boots for tears, cracks or loose clamps, and should ensure there is no signs of leakage of the grease. If indeed there is crack/s or leaking lubricant, it is necessary to replace the system.

    Q:
How to replace the CV Boot on Nissan Sentra? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the CV joints must be overhauled (usually due to tom boots), explore all options before beginning the job. Complete rebuilt driveaxles are available on an exchange basis which eliminates much time and work. Whichever route you choose to take, check on the cost and availability of parts before disassembling the vehicle. For the inner CV joint, remove the driveaxle, boot clamps, and the joint housing. Use a center punch to mark the tripod and axleshaft to ensure that they are reassembled properly. Remove the snap-ring from the end of the axleshaft with a pair of snap-ring pliers. Use a hammer and a brass punch to drive the tripod joint from the driveaxle. Clean all components with solvent to remove the grease, and check for cracks, pitting, scoring and other signs of wear. Slide the clamps and boot onto the axle shaft. Place the tripod on the shaft and install the snap ring. Apply grease to the tripod assembly, the inside of the joint housing and the inside of the boot. Install the housing on the joint, then install the retaining ring. Slide the boot into place, making sure both ends seat in their grooves. Adjust the length of the joint, equalize the pressure in the boot, then tighten and secure the boot clamps. Install a new circlip on the inner CV joint stub axle. Install the driveaxle. For the outer CV joint, remove the driveaxle, then remove the boot clamps. Perform the outer CV joint boot replacement procedure.
