    Q:
How to check the CV Boot and Shock Absorber on Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
    A:
For the Pathfinder, checking steering, linkage, suspension parts at regular times helps stop tires wearing wrong, keeps ride comfortable, and protects fuel efficiency. When working on tire pressures, shock absorbers, and struts, place the vehicle on level ground, stop the engine, and apply hand brake for safety. Lightly press one section of the car and watch for how the rest responds; it should come to a stop after one or two slight shakes. The shock absorber or strut needs repair if the car keeps bouncing after you push down on one corner of it. Park your car on jackstands properly, and repeat the process at all car corners before you lift it up. Before driving a Pathfinder, check for looseness or fluid leak at the shock and strut base. Make sure all parts are tightly fitted and free of damage. While the car is raised, check all steering and suspension pieces for damage to rubber parts as well as for any leaks. Look closely at the steering knuckle to make sure the balljoint moves as you turn the tire. To see if the steering works right, push and pull the front tires before inspecting the parts that connect the steering wheel to the tire wheels: the idler arm and bottom shaft. When you have a 4WD, watch for tears, cracks, or loose clamps on the CV Boot that cover your CV joints. These boots shield the joints from dirt and keep them running well, so replace them when they weaken or leak oil.

    Q:
How to remove the Coil Springs and Shock Absorber from the strut on a Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheels. Unclip the brake hose from the strut bracket and detach it from the bracket. Also remove the bolt and unclip the ABS speed sensor harness from the strut. Remove the nut and detach the stabilizer bar link from the strut. Remove the strut-to-knuckle nuts and knock the bolts out with a hammer and punch. Separate the strut from the steering knuckle. If equipped with adjustable shock absorbers, unplug the electrical connector from the shock absorber actuator and unbolt the actuator from the top of the strut tower. Remove the three strut upper mounting nuts. Support the strut with one hand before removing the last nut. Remove the assembly out from the fenderwell. Check the strut body for leaking fluid, dents, cracks and other obvious damage which would warrant repair or replacement. Check the coil spring for chips or cracks in the spring coating. Inspect the spring seat for cuts, hardness and general deterioration. If any undesirable conditions exist, proceed to the strut disassembly procedure. Guide the strut assembly up into the fenderwell and insert the upper mounting studs through the holes in the shock tower. Once the studs protrude from the shock tower, install the nuts so the strut won't fall back through. Slide the steering knuckle into the strut flange and insert the bolts. Guide the brake hose through its bracket in the strut and install the retaining clip. Clip the ABS speed sensor grommet into its bracket, then install the harness bolt and tighten it securely. Install the wheel and lug nuts, then lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts. Tighten the upper mounting nuts. If equipped with adjustable shock absorbers, install the shock absorber actuator, ensuring that the cutout in the actuator aligns with the control rod in the center of the piston rod. Tighten the bolts securely.
