1986 Nissan 300ZX Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Intake Manifold on an engine on 1986 Nissan 300ZX?
A: Release the fuel pressure and disconnect the negative cable at the battery, placing it out of the way to prevent accidental contact with the negative terminal. Remove the six screws holding the intake collector cover to the collector, then disconnect the electrical connectors on both sides of the engine, including the idle-up solenoid valve connector. Remove the two heat shield retaining bolts, disconnect the exhaust gas sensor electrical connector, and take out the five wiring harness hold-downs-three on the left and two on the right-from the intake collector. For the injector electrical connectors, use a screwdriver to pry the metal retaining clip away and pull the connector off the injector, repeating for each one. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator and distributor TDC sensor electrical connectors, then remove the air regulator by disconnecting its retaining bolts. Disconnect the EGR tube from the EGR valve, along with the remaining hoses on both sides of the intake collector, and the bolt attaching the EGR solenoid valve bracket. At the front of the engine, remove the metal vacuum hose by taking out the two retaining bolts and disconnect the rubber vacuum hose next to the metal hose bracket. Disconnect both vacuum lines and fuel lines connected to the throttle chamber, as well as the power brake vacuum line and the manifold vacuum line below it, and remove the air hose bracket. Remove the five alien head bolts securing the collector to the intake manifold, loosening them in the specified order and tightening in reverse order. Carefully lift the collector and throttle chamber as an assembly from the intake manifold, ensuring nothing falls into the intake ports, then cover the ports with a clean shop rag. Remove all old gasket material from the mating surfaces with a gasket scraper, lay a new gasket on the engine block, remove the shop rag, and install the intake manifold, tightening the mounting bolts to the specified torque. The installation of all fasteners and connectors follows the reverse order of removal.
