Start by loosening the front wheel lug nuts, and then lift the front of your vehicle and support it with jackstands, then take off the wheels. Next, remove the cowl cover and here it should be noted that although there are plugs on each side of the rearmost strut upper mounting bolt it is advisable to remove the whole cover. If keeping the cover on the motor, a magnet or magnetic insert in the socket helps the bolt to be inserted or a piece of tape may be placed around the bolt to affix it to the socket. Wiring harness connected to the strut should be unplugged, then the brake hose-to-strut retaining clip and the hose should be unbolted from the bracket. Remove the front stabilizer bar link-to-strut bolt and on the 'C' clips for 2013 and earlier models, remove the strut-to-knuckle nut and use a hammer and punch to knock out the bolts. For vehicles produced after 2014, then Torque the pinch bolt/nut, loosen the nut and separate the strut from the steering knuckle. While holding the strut and spring assembly, pop three upper mounting bolts and then pull out the assembly outside of the fenderwell. At the time of the inspection, look for any signs of leakage in; the body of the strut, dents, cracks and any other damages that make it weak and liable to be replaced. Check the coils of the spring for chipping or crack on the covering since the covering is susceptible to corrosion, which may lead to the failure of the spring, and inspect the spring seat for cuts, hardness, and general deterioration. If there are problems detected, go straight to the disassembly of the strut. For removal, slow the symmetrical motions and guide the strut assembly out of the fenderwell when loosening the upper mounting bolts to the specified torque, though it is recommended to have assistance due to the weight and inconvenience of the strut. Bolt the steering knuckle to the component strut, fasten the bolt/screw/s, and then tighten it to the recommended torque. Perform the reverse of the above mentioned procedures; tighten the nut of the stabilizer bar link and the lug nuts of the wheel to the recommended torque magnitude then take the front end alignment of your car for recheck and adjustment if needed.
