Before removing the head bolts, allow the engine to cool competely to avoid any distortion or warping of the cylinder head. Start with cranking the engine of a 200SX with Z Series Engine until No.1 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke, disconnect the battery and drain the cooling system. Take off the radiator hoses, heater hoses unbolt the
Alternator mounting bracket and move the alternator if needed. In case there is an air conditioning in your car, remove it from its bolts without disengaging compressor lines. Remove power steering pump. Mark and remove spark plug wires and spark plugs. Disconnect air cleaner or its hose assembly or throttle linkage and relieve fuel pressure. The fuel line, return fuel line, other vacuum lines or electrical leads should be disconnected as well. Remove E.G.R tube from around rear of engine; exhaust air induction tubes from
Exhaust Manifold; unbolt exhaust manifold from exhaust pipe. If present, remove intake manifold supports and P.C.V valve too. Remove valve cover. Remember how camshaft sprocket was related to
Timing Chain by marking it and wedge chain in place when you remove it. Undo camshaft sprocket and take it out. Then unscrew cylinder head bolts before taking them off with bolts that hold cylinder head to front cover assembly as well.Lift cylinder head off engine block.Installation involves cleaning thoroughly both surfaces on which cylinder block and head rest apply new head gasket without using sealant, tighten temporarily two centre cylinders head bolts.Put on camshaft sprocket ensuring that marks aligns together with timing chain and finally install remaining cylinder head bolts torquing them step by step.Clean spark plugs by regapping them properly then fit them into their respective holes.Put on valve cover sealing with a new gasket if necessary have intake manifold supports in place again if equipped returned pcv valve followed by exhaust manifold next along with that go back to the air induction tubes and finally re-fasten E.G.R tube. Reconnect throttle linkage, air cleaner, fuel lines, and other connections. Install the power steering pump, air conditioning compressor, and alternator. Reconnect hoses and refill the cooling system. Adjust the valves, start the engine, and check for leaks. For other engine types like CA20E; CA18ET; VG30E; KA24E; KA24DE or even , you will have to follow similar procedures that are specific to each engine such as draining fluids, removing belts, disconnecting hoses and wires, aligning timing marks, removing cylinder head bolts and reinstalling components in reverse order.
