Nissan 240SX Differential Seal

A Nissan 240SX Differential Seal keeps the gear oil inside of the rear differential while keeping dirt and water out. This allows your vehicle to corner smoothly without leaks. Differential Seals are located around the output shafts. The Differential Seal is a rubber and metal ring that prevents pressure and heat from forcing lubricant away. In addition, it protects the gears that share torque between the wheels of open or limited slip. The two differentials applied on the 240SX over its years both use the same Differential Seal. If the seal is worn, it can leak fluid and also let in dirt that messes up either setup. The factory seals on the Nissan models are made from different mixes of synthetic rubber. Some are even reinforced or coated to withstand chemical attack or high temperature and to stay put as the housing expands and contracts. Should there be a Differential Seal failure, the clanking sounds, vibrations felt through the floor, and oily streaks on the rear case are indicators that the bearings and gears should be changed before they get damaged. The Nissan driveline stays healthy thanks to routine checks every 3,000 miles and the right fluid level. However, should the 240SX leak, a Differential Seal replacement and 75W-90 gear oil addition restore quiet, confident power delivery.
