To remove and install the pump, first disconnect the hoses at the pump and plug the openings to prevent contamination, keeping the lines raised to avoid leakage. Next, remove the pump belt, loosen the retaining bolts and any braces, and take out the pump. For installation, reverse the removal steps, using torque specifications of 23-31 ft. lbs. for the pulley locknut and 20-26 ft. lbs. for the pump bracket to engine. Adjust the belt and bleed the system. To bleed the power steering system, fill the pump reservoir and let it sit for a few minutes. Raise the car until the front wheels are off the ground, then with the engine off, turn the wheels right and left several times, lightly hitting the stops. Add fluid if needed, start the engine and let it idle, then repeat the wheel turning and fluid checking process with the engine running. Finally, stop the engine, lower the car until the wheels just touch the ground, start the engine again, let it idle, and turn the wheels back and forth several times, checking the fluid level and refilling if necessary.
