Nissan 350Z Power Steering Pressure Switch

The Nissan 350Z Power Steering Pressure Switch acts like a safety that prevents the engine from stalling when steering loads increase at low speed. Located in the hydraulic line that runs between the pump and rack, the Nissan 350Z Power Steering Pressure Switch detects increasing fluid pressure generated during tight parking moves. It then dispatches an electrical signal to the engine control computer, which raises idle speed for a short time so the motor can power both the pump and components simultaneously without stalling. In addition to the rack and pinion system, the Power Steering Pressure Switch simply provides mechanical assistance to the pump's internal flow control valve, which diverts the excess fluid back to the pump to prevent overboost at higher rpm. Nissan applied the same hydraulic style Power Steering Pressure Switch that earlier models of the 350Z rely upon in later refreshes, so differences are limited to changes in connector shape and calibration values. Core operation is the same. The Power Steering Pressure Switch connects hydraulic and electronic systems and is a small but very important part that helps each and every Nissan driver enjoy confident steering feel and smooth engine performance.

Nissan 350Z Power Steering Pressure Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: Where is the Power Steering Pressure Switch located on the power steering pump on Nissan 350Z?
    A:
The PSP sensor is located on the high-pressure power steering fluid line at the power steering pump, which is located on the right side of the engine, directly above the alternator. To start, raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Then, locate the PSP sensor on the right upper side of the power steering pump. Disconnect the electrical connector from the PSP sensor. To do this, depress the release tab and pull the connector off. Next, unscrew the PSP sensor using a wrench or deep socket. Be prepared for fluids to spill. Installation is the reverse of removal. After installation, check the power steering fluid level, adding as necessary to bring it to the appropriate level.
