It is not recommended by the manufacturer to check the spark plug gap because doing so will remove its platinum or iridium coating which can damage the plugs. For most cases, spark plug replacement tools include a ratchet having a spark plug socket (spark plug sockets are padded inside to protect new plugs' porcelain insulators), and various extensions like a torque wrench, a socket with wrench and an extension. While purchasing new spark plugs, be certain to purchase the right type that matches your engine. Make sure that you let engine cool completely before attempting to remove any of the plugs. However, don't forget to examine new plugs for defects. Remove air intake duct. Take away just one bolt and lift up coil/plug boot assembly after disconnecting electrical connector at
Ignition Coil on one cylinder. Replace one plug at once. If there is compressed air, use it to blow away from the spark plug hole any dirt or other foreign matters that may have settled there in such a way as to eliminate any possible occurrence of debris falling into the cylinder as soon as the spark plug is removed. Put the spark plug socket over the plug and then turn it anti-clockwise removing it from the engine.Loosen up by turning counterclockwise the fastening nut on the top of each tube; compare each spark plug with chart on inside back cover for an idea of general running condition of engine; Observe detailed instructions for their installation given in par 1-11 prior to installing new ones. Before putting in new plugs, apply thin coat of anti-seize compound on threads; Put one of new plugs into hole far enough that you cannot turn it anymore with your fingers, then tighten it using torque wrench or ratchet; Safety tip-I like to put a short length of rubber hose over end of plug; hold hose firmly enough that I can turn without slipping but if starts cross-threading in hole, hose starts slipping rather than damaging threads and paying for their repair. Put the boot back on the new spark plug, twisting it until it seats properly. Repeat this process with remaining spark plugs.
