- Q: How to replace spark plugs in an engine on Nissan 350Z?A:It is not recommended by the manufacturer to check the spark plug gap because doing so will remove its platinum or iridium coating which can damage the plugs. For most cases, spark plug replacement tools include a ratchet having a spark plug socket (spark plug sockets are padded inside to protect new plugs' porcelain insulators), and various extensions like a torque wrench, a socket with wrench and an extension. While purchasing new spark plugs, be certain to purchase the right type that matches your engine. Make sure that you let engine cool completely before attempting to remove any of the plugs. However, don't forget to examine new plugs for defects. Remove air intake duct. Take away just one bolt and lift up coil/plug boot assembly after disconnecting electrical connector at Ignition Coil on one cylinder. Replace one plug at once. If there is compressed air, use it to blow away from the spark plug hole any dirt or other foreign matters that may have settled there in such a way as to eliminate any possible occurrence of debris falling into the cylinder as soon as the spark plug is removed.
