Nissan Armada Rack and Pinion Boot

The Nissan Armada Rack and Pinion Boot helps protect the steering rack from any contaminants and seals the ends of an assembly. Located above at the rack gear where it attaches to the tie rod, the rubber bellows prevent dirt, moisture, and debris from entering the Armada rack tube and spoiling seals. The Rack and Pinion Boot keeps the environment clean and retains lubricant so that the rack gear can move laterally instead of vertically as the steering wheel turns the vehicle wheels. Should the Rack and Pinion Boot tear or crack, abrasive particles can reach the gear and piston area, leading to fluid leaks, premature inner tie rod joint wear, stiff steering, and potential damage to the gears themselves. A properly fitted Rack and Pinion Boot will help ensure reliable hydraulic power assist operation of your Nissan vehicle's steering system. Designed to match the size of the steering layout of the Nissan Armada, it is manufactured to Nissan's design tolerances to keep the steering mechanism of the Armada protected throughout everyday driving. Conducting regular visual checks of the Rack and Pinion Boot may identify damage before it becomes costly.

Nissan Armada Rack and Pinion Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear Rack and Pinion Boot on a Nissan Armada equipped with rear auto-leveling suspension?
    A:
On the rear leveling suspension armada models, turn the key of ignition to OFF before raising the car. Loosen wheel lug nuts, lift vehicle front and secure it with jack stands, then remove the wheels. Take off the under-vehicle splash shield. Detach tie-rod end from tie-rod. Remove tie-rod end jam nut. Get rid of outer boot clamp with pliers, then cut away inner boot (big) clamp and discard it. Use pliers to squeeze and pull off the outer clamp on rack and pinion boot; inner clamp has to be cut out. Remove boot. Put new clamp on inside of boot. Coat tie-rod groove (outer side of boot). Push new boot over tie-rod and onto rack and pinion housing. Align it so that it is not twisted and then secure it with the internal clamp. Insert outer clamp and screw in Tie Rod End jam nut. Connect the tie rod end. Check your alignment of front-end and make sure to adjust if needed.
