Turn the shift cable-to-manual lever locknut counterclockwise, which is located to the right of the transmission and shift the manual shift lever to Park. Advance the cable into the casing until a force of about 2.2 pounds is felt by the cable, and then release the force so that the cable returns to a state of rest, on the nut that is on the cable at the manual lever side. Shift through the gears to ensure that the car can only be started in Park or Neutral, and the backup lights are on, only when in Reverse. Last but not obviously the least, return the vehicle's weight on its wheels and take off the jackstands.
