On 1.2 litre engines, the exhaust manifold incorporates the turbocharger as one assembly, while the following procedures apply only to 1.6 litre engines. Begin by disconnecting the battery negative terminal, then remove the exhaust system front pipe and the outlet
Air Duct. Disconnect the wiring connector and undo the retaining bolt securing the oxygen sensor wiring harness bracket to the cylinder head on the right-hand side. Next, undo the retaining bolts and remove the exhaust manifold upper heat shield, followed by the side mounting bolt from the exhaust manifold support bracket. Remove the exhaust manifold lower heat shield, ensuring nothing is still attached to the manifold before working from the outside to the centre to slacken and remove the manifold retaining nuts. Carefully manoeuvre the manifold out of the engine compartment and discard the manifold gasket. For refitting, follow the reverse of the removal procedure, taking care to examine all exhaust manifold studs and nuts for damage and corrosion, repairing or renewing any as necessary, and noting that it is recommended to renew nuts and studs if removed. Ensure the sealing faces of the manifold and cylinder head are clean and flat, then fit a new manifold gasket. Install the manifold and tighten its retaining nuts to the specified torque, starting at the centre and working outwards, before refitting the front pipe.
