To remove the hub cap or wheel cover, take out the cotter pin and nut lock, then loosen the drive axle/hub nut. If the socket doesn't fit through the wheel's center opening, remove the wheel and install the spare. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jack stands before removing the wheel. Next, take off the brake caliper and brake disc, and disconnect the brake hose from the strut. If equipped with ABS, disconnect and remove the wheel speed sensor. Remove the strut-to-steering knuckle nuts without removing the bolts yet. Separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm and the
Ball Joint from the steering knuckle. Remove the strut-to-knuckle bolts and separate the knuckle from the strut while pushing the drive axle from the hub; if the drive axle sticks, tap the end with a hammer and brass punch, supporting it with a length of wire. For installation, lubricate the splines of the drive axle with multi-purpose grease, guide the knuckle and hub assembly into position, and insert the drive axle into the hub. Push the knuckle into the strut flange, install the bolts and two new nuts without tightening them yet, then attach the
Control Arm to the steering knuckle and the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle arm, tightening the strut-to-knuckle nuts to the specified torque. Place the brake disc on the hub and install the caliper, then install the drive axle/hub nut and tighten it securely but not completely. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and finally tighten the lug nuts and the drive axle/hub nut to the specified torque, followed by installing the felt washer, nut lock, and a new cotter pin.
