Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Drain the cooling system. If the coolant is relatively new or in good condition, save it for reuse. Loosen the right-front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel and the inner fender splash shield. Remove the inlet air duct and the engine lower splash shield. Set the engine to TDC on the compression stroke for cylinder no. Make sure the pointer aligns with the TDC mark on the crankshaft pulley and that the engine is on the compression stroke. Remove the drivebelt. Remove the belt idler pulley and the air conditioning idler pulley. Remove the
Coolant Reservoir. Unbolt the power steering fluid reservoir and set it aside with the lines attached. Place a floor jack under the oil pan using a block of wood as a pad. Raise the jack to take weight off the engine mounts. Remove the right engine mount assembly and the torque rod. Remove the coolant drain plug from the water pump side of the engine block. Disconnect the wiring from the front IVT control valve. Remove the front IVT control valve cover. Remove the chain tensioner cover and the water pump cover from the engine front cover. Push the tensioner plunger in and lock it in the retracted position. Carefully rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the timing chain becomes somewhat loose on the tensioner side, then remove the tensioner. Remove the water pump mounting bolts. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise (no more than 20 degrees) until the chain becomes slack on the water pump sprocket. Install two 8 mm bolts into the water pump bolt holes and tighten them equally until they bottom against the timing chain cover. Remove the water pump. Clean the sealant from the mating surface and replace the O-rings. Install the O-rings with the white paint mark into the groove closest to the pump flange and the second O-ring into its groove. Apply a light amount of oil to the O-rings. Tighten the pump bolts to the torque. Installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system, reconnect the battery, and perform the necessary re-learn procedures.
