The position of the air filter in the four-cylinder models is at the center of a housing, inside the engine while on V6 models it is in a housing located on the left hand side of the engine. For removal of the air filter on a four-cylinder model, one has to unscrewthe two wing nuts and remove the top of that housing so as to take out its filter element. 3.3L V6 models need one to release these spring clips that keep together those two halves of an air cleaner housing and then lift up its cover so as to take away its air filter element. In case you have a 3.3L V6 engine next loosen the intake duct hose clamp, unplug Mass Airflow sensor, release clips then lift off cover and remove filter element. On 3.5L V6 models, press clips, pull filter carrier out from housing and take off filter element from carrier itself. Check outside surface of this filter element. If it is clogged replace with another one . If it is somewhat dusty , it can be blown clean from back to front with compressed air for re-use because it's pleated paper type . You cannot wash or oil it as it will not work anymore. But if washing doesn't make it satisfactorily clean, blow out all particles caught in there; otherwise throw away and install new one.Whereas you are lifting off cap watch against dropping anything into this box.Never ever drive your car without an air cleaner on! The excessive wear on an engine could result even as backfiring might even ignite a fire under your bonnet.Clean out the interior side (of)aircleaner housing.Put newfilter into aircleanerhousing , making sure that ithasbeen properly positioned.Installationofthecoverisdoneinreverse orderofremoval.
