All pistons and their rings will be subjected to this procedure again.

The purpose of the Nissan Pathfinder Piston Ring Set is to lock in high-pressure gases in each cylinder to convert power into smooth wheel motion. Each Piston Ring Set has been installed on the grooves of the piston to form a tight seal with the cylinder wall, transferring heat away and scraping off excess oil back to the sump. The Pathfinder engines generally have three rings per piston, two for compression and one for oil control.
