Nissan Pathfinder Throttle Body
The Nissan Pathfinder Throttle Body regulates airflow to the engine, matching it to the amount of fuel injected for combustion. Located between the Nissan Pathfinder's air cleaner and intake manifold, the Throttle Body has a butterfly valve that opens wider when the accelerator is pressed. The powertrain control module commands more fuel. Depending on the Nissan Pathfinder model, either the throttle plate can be moved using a cable for varieties without electronic throttle control, or variations with such systems have the pedal position sensor and internal motor drive linkages. The Throttle Body housing of Nissan powertrains is also provided with a bypass passageway linked to an idle air control (IAC) valve which stabilizes idle speed. A throttle position sensor (TPS) mounted on the shaft also reports valve angle for correct fueling. A previous iteration, known as Throttle Body injection, placed one or two injectors along with a pressure regulator just above the plates, differing from the current multi-port arrangement which operates on a separate fueling scheme. Cleaning the Throttle Body can prevent the Pathfinder from stalling or rough idling.

- Q: How to remove, clean and reinstall a throttle body in a Nissan Pathfinder?A:Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the air filter housing (4-cylinder) or air intake duct (V6) from the throttle body. Disconnect electrical connectors, label and detach vacuum hoses, accelerator and cruise control cables, and coolant hoses. Remove throttle body mounting bolts, throttle body and gasket. Reverse installation with new gasket, adjust cables, check coolant level, and perform idle air volume relearn (3.5L V6).
