The air filter is mounted inside the air filter housing on the left-hand side close to the front part of the vehicle, precisely in the engine compartment. In case of 2.0L models, unclinch two locking clips of the top cover; draw out the air filter holder from the housing; and take out the filter from the holder. In 2.5L models, unsnap it by turning the two tabs to retract the spring clips securing the two halves of the housing, pull the halves apart and pull out the filter. Check the outer skin of the filter element; if it is dirty they should be replaced, but if it is only dusty in moderate amount, the skin can be cleaned by blowing compressed air from the back to the front. Since it is a pleated paper type filter, it cannot be washed or oiled; when it cannot be cleaned adequately, it must be replaced. As the cover is removed do not put anything into the housing. Never take the air filter out while the car or truck is in operation because the engine will be exposed to high amounts of dirt and the vehicle is prone to bursting into flames. Clean the interior of the air filter housing after that, fix the new filter in the holder or the housing properly. Slide the filter holder into the housing till it fits and click the clips; for 2.5L models put the halves of the housing back and snap the clips.
