With the engine removed from the car, drain the engine oil and clean and refit the engine oil drain plug using a new sealing washer, tightening it to the specified torque. If the engine is nearing its service interval when the oil and filter are due for renewal, it is recommended to also remove the filter and fit a new one. After reassembly, refill the engine with fresh oil. Remove the cylinder head cover, crankshaft pulley, and alternator. Undo the three retaining bolts to remove the coolant pump pulley, then undo the retaining bolt to take out the auxiliary drivebelt automatic tensioner from the timing cover. Remove the cap, undo the retaining bolt, and take out the auxiliary drivebelt idler roller. Disconnect the wiring connector, undo the retaining bolt, and remove the inlet valve timing control solenoid from the front side of the timing cover, then do the same for the exhaust timing control solenoid from the rear side. Undo the three bolts to remove the inlet camshaft end cover from the timing cover, recovering the O-ring seals, and remove the exhaust camshaft end cover similarly. Working in reverse of the tightening sequence, slacken and remove the timing cover retaining bolts, noting the correct fitted location of each bolt as some are different lengths and diameters. The timing cover is bonded to the engine block/cylinder head with a liquid gasket, so carefully work around the outside of the cover to release it from the engine. Maneuver the cover into position over the end of the crankshaft, taking care not to damage the oil seal lip, ensure the cover is correctly seated, and then install the retaining bolts, tightening them in sequence to the specified torque. Refit the coolant pump pulley and tighten the three retaining bolts, followed by the alternator, crankshaft pulley, and cylinder head cover.
