Because of the Federally-mandated extended warranty which covers emission-related components such as the catalytic converter, check with a deafer service department before replacing the converter at your own expense. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Spray a liberal amount of penetrating oil onto the threads of the exhaust pipe-to-exhaust manifold bolts. Do the same for the exhaust to the rear muffler bolts. Remove the downstream 
Oxygen Sensor from the exhaust pipe. Unscrew the two nuts that fasten the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Be sure to retain the exhaust clamp springs. Unscrew the two nuts that fasten the exhaust pipe to the muffler. Be sure to retain the exhaust clamp springs. Remove the exhaust pipe (catalytic converter) and discard the front and rear exhaust gaskets. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use new exhaust gaskets. Make sure the springs are located properly by aligning them to the dimples in the exhaust flanges. Use anti-seize compound on all the bolts and nuts.
