  Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by depressing the tab. Remove the screws and pull the switch from the ignition lock cylinder housing, ensuring the hub of the new switch is aligned with the blade on the ignition lock cylinder during installation. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse of the removal procedure, followed by reconnecting the battery and performing the necessary re-learn procedures. For the ignition lock cylinder housing, remove the ignition switch and, on models with an automatic transaxle, detach the shift interlock cable from the ignition lock cylinder housing. Remove the shear-head bolts by drilling through their center and using a screw extractor, then install new shear-head bolts, tightening them until the heads break off. Reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures. Up to four intelligent key transponders can be programmed to the vehicle, and a weak battery in the intelligent key transmitter is a common cause of a no start; testing the battery strength at a parts store is advisable. If the intelligent key is left in the glove box or on the dash, the vehicle may not start. For push-button replacement, remove the left-hand lower trim panel from the instrument panel, release the locking tabs to the NATS Antenna amp, and remove the antenna. Press in on the tabs to the ignition start button from the back side of the trim panel and slide the button assembly out. Installation is the reverse of removal.
