Before you can take out the fuel pump/sending unit from your Xterra, you need to ease pressure from the tank and remove the
Fuel Tank. Remove fuel lines, then unscrew holding bolts from the fuel pump setup. Move the assembly very carefully from the tank, making sure not to scratch the gas level measuring equipment or its connection unit. Unplug the fuel pump's electrical cable, and let go of the hose connecting it to the pump. Gently press the locking lever to split the fuel pump and bracket from the
Fuel Level Sensor, then look at the filter to make sure there's no dirt. Change the filter if needed. To put it back, follow the same steps in reverse order, wash the tank mount area, slide a fresh O-ring around the opening, and push the tank assembly inside. Reattach the fuel lines, make sure screw mounts are tight, link the fuel tubes back together, reconnect the electricity wire, put on the panel cover, and return the back seat.
