    Q:
What steps should be taken to address shifting issues with the Nissan Sentra's shift cables? Posted by Customer
    A:
Adjustments are not available for the shift cables; if the vehicle does not shift properly, check for bent brackets and verify the cables are correctly installed in the brackets and on the levers. Begin by raising the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands. The shifter assembly and cables are one unit and cannot be replaced separately. Next, remove the battery, followed by the air filter housing and ducts to access the top of the transaxle. Detach the shift and select cables from the shift lever on the transaxle by carefully prying the cable ends away from the levers, then place the shifter in Neutral. Proceed to remove the center console and the bolts attaching the shifter assembly to the vehicle. Remove the front exhaust, middle muffler, and heat shield from under the center of the vehicle to allow access to the shift cables. After that, remove the cable support bracket and take out the shift and select cables from the bracket. Finally, remove the shifter and shift cables from the vehicle as an assembly from under the vehicle, and installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to replace the shift cable on Nissan Sentra? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the shift cable, position the gear selector in park and break the shift cable from the pivot and shift it to the down position to remove it from the bracket. Thirdly, the battery and the housing with air ducts should be unstalled to grant access to the top of the transaxle. Pull the cable away from the shift lever and the bracket fixed on the transaxle, lief then and jack up the vehicle and place it on several stands. Take off the exhaust and the heat shield located under the center of the car to gain access to the shift cable, after that, the client should unscrew the cable support bracket as well as the shift cable. Removing involves restoring the interior to the state it was before and the cable ought to be fine tuned after the installation. For adjustment, you need to take off the air filter housing, put the shift lever to the "P" position, slacken the shift cable to the manual lever locknut and confirm that the transaxle manual shift lever is fully in the Park position, before making the final adjustments. While the manual lever is held in position release the tension on the lock nut probably by rotating the lock nut counter clockwise and then shift the shape levers from "P" to "1", there should be no hard feeling or resistance on the lever and the shift indicator should be in harmony with the actual positions of the shift levers. Last of all, ensure that the starting of the engine is possible.
