Nissan 22630-0M200 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

Check wiring between dash and sending unit for short circuit if overheating occurs even when engine is cold. To test sending unit, disconnect connector and attach ohmmeter from pin on top of sender to engine ground. Replace sending unit by unscrewing from engine and quickly installing replacement, using conductive sealant on threads. Make sure engine is cool before removing defective sending unit and catch coolant loss. Check coolant level after replacement part is installed.

If an overheating indication occurs even when the engine is cold, the wiring between the dash and the sending unit should be checked for a short circuit to ground.

After installing the new ECT sensor, check the coolant level and add more if needed. Start the engine to reach normal operating temperature, and inspect for any coolant leaks, also verifying the coolant level in the expansion tank after the engine has cooled down.

If the sending unit needs to be replaced, unscrew it from the engine. It's important to ensure the engine is cool before removing the defective sending unit. During the replacement, there will be some coolant loss as the unit is removed, so have a container ready to catch it.

The Engine Coolant Temperature sensor is threaded into the intake manifold coolant passage in four-cylinder and 3.3L V6 models.

Using an ohmmeter, the resistance between the two terminals of the sensor can be measured.
