How to disassemble and reassemble the axle shaft on the 1986 Nissan 300ZX?

Regarding the disassembly of the carrier side, it is necessary to pull out the axle shaft from the vehicle and place it between two soft wooden boards in a vise. Next, it is good to indicate alignment on the shaft and the joint assembly so that you can align it later. Gently knock the joint assembly so as to make it come off the shaft although this is a joint that cannot be dismantled. For the wheel side, it is necessary to conduct removal of boot bands and draw the corresponding reference lines on the slide joint housing and the inner race. Depress this snap ring and pull out the slide joint housing using a screwdriver, then scratch the shaft and inner race. Pull off the snap ring from the front of the ball cage using the snap ring pliers and relinquish the ball cage/balls/inner race together as a unit. Lift off another snap ring and immerse the cage assembly in a container and take off the boot from the shaft. The shaft has to be examined for any signs of cracks or distortion and the assemblies for burns, rust, wear or looseness, any of which will require the part to be replaced. Regarding the carrier side assembly: Place the boot from the wheel side gently so as not to harm it; substitute a new small boot band to the shaft. Clamp the shaft on a bench with wooden jaws and bring the joint assembly to the shaft firmly and make it sit by tapping it and make sure the marks are rightly aligned. Apply grease to the joint/boot assembly, cover it with the large boot band and bend the retaining tabs towards the band. To set the boot length, while holding the shaft in the correct position relative to the joint assembly, crimp the boot band to the correct length as indicated. Regarding the wheel side assembly, fit and fix the boot appropriately, tension up the big boot band, and level the band retainer. Attach the ball cage assembly and fasten with snap rings, further insert the assembly into the slide joint housing by the help of another snap ring. Grease the boot/joint assembly, and set the boot length to the same as the carrier side. Once the axle shaft is built, make sure it functions freely from full up to full down with no binding before you refit it.
