Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, and for 2004 and later models, drain the cooling system and remove the radiator. Block the rear wheels and set the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, and remove the lower splash cover from below the engine, along with the inner wheel well splash shields for 2004 and later models. If the rear exhaust manifold is to be removed, remove the upper intake manifold. Remove the heat shield from the manifold(s). Support the engine/transaxle securely from above with a hoist or a three bar engine support brace, ensuring it is stable and avoiding placing any part of your body under it. Working underneath the vehicle, disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors and remove the front exhaust pipe. Detach the front and rear
Engine Mount through bolts and remove the crossmember and engine mounts as an assembly. Remove the engine mount support brackets from each side of the engine block, disconnect the EGR tube from the rear exhaust manifold, and remove the manifold-to-head nuts/bolts to detach the manifold and gaskets. For installation, use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material and carbon deposits from the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces, position the new exhaust manifold gaskets over the cylinder head studs, and install the manifold by threading the mounting nuts/bolts into place. Tighten the nuts/bolts to the specified torque in three or four equal steps, then reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Finally, run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
