Q: How do you adjust and replace the shift cable for automatic transmission shifters in Nissan Pathfinder?A: Move the shift lever from the "p" position to the "1" position. To adjust the shift cable on column shift models, loosen the shift cable-to-manual lever locknut, push the cable into its casing, then pull the cable in the direction opposite arrow B approximately 3/64-inch (1.0 mm) and tighten the nut. For floor-shift models, loosen the lock nuts on either side of the turnbuckle, tighten the turnbuckle until all slack is taken out of the inner cable and the shift lever moves back toward the R position, against the P position stop, then turn the turnbuckle in the opposite direction one turn and tighten the lock nuts securely. To replace the shift cable, remove the left side under-dash panel, knee bolster and reinforcement, working under the dash, pry the cable end off the shift lever post then remove the clip and detach the cable casing from the bracket on the steering column, remove the driver's side kick panel, peel back the carpet and follow the cable to where it goes through the floor pan, detach the cable casing from the floor pan, detach the cable from the manual shift lever on the side of the transmission, remove the clip securing the cable casing to the bracket on the transmission, then remove the cable from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to adjust the cable when you're done.
