The transmission range switch is mounted on the top of the transaxle. To replace it, first remove the battery and the battery tray. Then, remove the shift cable from the manual shaft and disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the switch. Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the switch and verify that the engine will start only in Park or Neutral. Also, verify that the back-up lights come on only in Reverse. Adjust the range switch as necessary to ensure that these conditions are met. For adjustment, set the parking brake and move the shifter to the "N" position. Loosen the control cable-to-manual lever nut and the range switch mounting bolts. Rotate the switch and insert a drill bit (4 mm) into the adjusting holes on both the switch and manual lever. Finally, tighten the mounting bolts and the control cable-to-manual lever nut.
